I've been testing different UHF/VHF antennas including one that was recommended on the Ham Radio Crash Course Facebook page. It's the N9tax Labs Dual Band 2m/70cm Slim Jim antenna.
Using this antenna and my Radioddity GD-77 Handy Talkie I was able to hit a repeater 13.6 miles away in Mission Kansas from south Overland Park using just 1 watt of power! This was with the antenna and radio in my walk-out basement.
